Celebrating Women Trailblazers: Anne-Sharlene Murapa

Writer: Africa MattersAfrica Matters

At Africa Matters Initiative, we celebrate women who are not just making a difference but redefining what change looks like. One such trailblazer is Anne-Sharlene Murapa, a creative visionary who is reshaping the landscape of healing, storytelling, and empowerment for African youth and women. Through Kurapa Moyo, she has created a sanctuary where African women can embrace healing on their own terms—without shame, without apology, and in deep connection with one another.

Anne-Sharlene understands that healing is both personal and collective. Through Kurapa Moyo, she creates spaces for African women to heal from trauma, blending storytelling, movement, and self-inquiry. Her Creative Transcendence Journey, an eight-week program, brought together 12 women for a deeply transformative experience—one that fostered reconnection with self and community.

Beyond in-person initiatives, she ensures that healing is accessible, not exclusive. Through Kurapa Moyo’s digital presence, she shares free tools, reflections, and meditative exercises, redefining self-care as a birthright rather than a luxury. Growing this community organically, she proves that authenticity is the most powerful driver of impact.

Championing Young Women’s Voices

Anne-Sharlene’s advocacy extends beyond digital spaces. As a Johnson & Johnson & UNFPA DREAMS TAA peer educator, she has empowered 1,500+ adolescent girls with life-changing sexual and reproductive health knowledge. Through the East Africa UWC Umoja Short Course, she has guided young changemakers in exploring identity, gender, and intersectionality—shaping a future generation of self-aware and socially conscious leaders.

Anne-Sharlene harnesses digital storytelling to amplify impact. She has helped platforms like Moonshot Platform reach 190,000+ people in three months, proving that meaningful engagement sparks real change. Her work isn’t about virality—it’s about fostering community and inspiring action. Her commitment to justice extends into research. Her work on gendered violence against queer South Africans was Highly Commended by Oxford & Skoll’s Map the System, contributing to critical conversations on safety, equity, and representation.

Why Anne-Sharlene Murapa is a Trailblazer

Anne-Sharlene’s work is deeply intentional, rooted in care, and driven by the belief that African women deserve to heal, thrive, and lead on their own terms. Whether she is designing healing spaces, equipping young girls with life-changing knowledge, or using storytelling as a tool for change, she is actively reimagining what empowerment looks like for African women.

She is more than an advocate—she is a weaver of safe spaces, a builder of communities, and a dreamer of a world where healing is abundant and accessible. Anne-Sharlene is proof that healing is not passive; it is revolutionary. And through her work, she is ensuring that no woman has to walk her healing journey alone.

We celebrate Anne-Sharlene Murapa as an unstoppable force, a change-maker, and a visionary leader. Her journey reminds us that healing is not just about restoring what was lost but about creating something new—something powerful, transformative, and undeniably African.
